What are 10mm uPVC capping boards used for?

10mm capping boards are designed to cover sound, existing timber fascia to give a clean, low-maintenance finish. They’re ideal when the timber behind is straight and solid, and you want to refresh the look without stripping everything back.

Do 10mm capping boards replace a fascia board?

No — capping boards aren’t structural. They’re a cover-up board. If the timber behind is rotten, bowed, or crumbling, you’ll need full replacement fascia instead.

How do I know if capping is the right option for my roofline?

Capping is suitable if:

  • the timber behind is dry, solid, and straight

  • gutter brackets are fixed properly and the fascia line isn’t sagging
    If the gutter is pulling away, the timber feels soft, or the edge line waves, don’t cap it — replace it.

 

Can I fit capping boards over painted fascia?

Yes, as long as the timber is sound. Give it a clean, remove any loose/flaking paint, and make sure the surface is flat. If it’s heavily textured or uneven, it’ll show through over time.

What fixings should I use for 10mm capping boards?

Use poly-top nails or colour-matched screws suitable for uPVC roofline. Fix into the timber behind (not just the old paint layer), and don’t go tight enough to crush the board — uPVC needs a touch of movement.
