Why Agate Grey Is the Right Call
Agate Grey is the grey you fit when anthracite is too heavy. It's RAL 7038 — a light, soft grey with the faintest green cast and a woodgrain texture, and it sits a long way from the near-charcoal of Anthracite Grey. On a big elevation anthracite looks sharp. On a modest semi with a shallow overhang it can read as a black band across the front of the house. Agate gives you the grey without the weight.
It's become a common window foil on newer builds and on replacement windows where the customer wanted grey but softer, so more and more rooflines need to match it. Against white render, cream render, buff and light brick it looks deliberate rather than bolted on. Against red brick it gives you a cooler contrast than a woodgrain without shouting about it.
Worth knowing: it's a woodgrain foil, not a smooth one. There's a grain texture in the surface, so it catches light the way timber does rather than looking like a flat sheet. If you want a flat grey with no texture, that's Anthracite Smooth, and it's a different product.
It's foil, not paint, so the colour holds. No sanding, no repainting, no annual trip up the ladder to see how it's weathered.

What You Need to Order for an Agate Grey Roofline
Start with the fascia. If the timber behind is rotten, or you're on a new roof, you want full replacement board — 18mm, fixed straight to the rafter ends, strong enough to carry the guttering with nothing behind it. If the existing timber is sound and you just want it to look right, capping board goes over the top at roughly half the cost. Both run 150mm to 250mm as single boards, with 350mm and 450mm doubles for a deep overhang.
Then the soffit, which is the underside. Hollow soffit spans an open eaves gap on its own. Flat soffit is thinner and needs something solid behind it. Vented soffit has the slots moulded in for the 10mm air gap the roof needs to breathe at the eaves. Most jobs use one of the first two along the run, with vented board wherever ventilation is required.
Then the bits people forget when they order. A joint trim for every board join on a run over 5m. An external corner for every outward turn and an internal corner for every inward one — walk the elevation and count them, because the internals are the ones that get missed. Starter trim along the wall, joint trim between soffit boards, a finial on each exposed board end, and a box of colour-matched polytop nails.
One thing to check before you order. Eurocell don't make the 135° external corner in Agate Grey — it's a five-colour part. If you've got a splayed bay, you'll need to either mitre a standard corner on site or drop to a white or anthracite 135°. Worth knowing at the take-off stage rather than on the day.

Frequently Asked Questions
What sizes are available in Agate Grey fascia boards?
We stock 150mm, 175mm, 200mm, 225mm and 250mm as single boards, plus 350mm and 450mm doubles for deeper overhangs. If you're capping over sound existing timber rather than replacing it, the capping board runs the same spread — 150mm to 250mm with 350mm and 450mm doubles, all in the same Agate Grey.
What's the difference between Agate Grey and Anthracite Grey?
Shade, mainly, and it's a big gap. Anthracite is RAL 7016, a dark near-charcoal grey. Agate is RAL 7038, a light grey with a faint green-grey cast. Held side by side there's no mistaking one for the other. If your windows are Agate Grey, anthracite fascia above them will look almost black by comparison.
Is Agate Grey the same as Slate Grey or Moondust Grey?
No. They're three separate greys and they don't substitute for each other. Agate Grey is the lightest of the three, and the only one with a green cast to it. If you're matching existing windows or an existing run of roofline, check the colour name with the original supplier before you order, or hold a sample against it.
Is Agate Grey smooth or woodgrain?
Woodgrain. There's a grain texture in the foil, so it picks up light rather than sitting flat. If you want a smooth grey with no texture, that's a different foil — Anthracite Smooth — and it won't match Agate.
Why is there a lead time on Agate Grey?
It's a special foil rather than a stock colour. Eurocell make the range in it, but most branches order it in against your job rather than carry it on the shelf, so allow 3 to 10 working days. Ordering the whole elevation in one go means one delivery rather than several waits.
What's the difference between hollow, flat and vented soffit?
Hollow soffit has internal ribs and spans an open eaves gap on its own. Flat soffit is thinner and needs backing timber or a short span. Vented soffit has moulded slots giving a continuous 10mm air gap where the roof needs to breathe at the eaves. Most jobs use hollow or flat along the run with vented board where ventilation is required.
Are matching trims and accessories available in Agate Grey?
Yes, and it's all Eurocell so it's the same Agate Grey throughout. Hollow soffit in 300mm, flat soffit from 100mm to 400mm, vented soffit in 150mm, 200mm and 300mm. External and internal corners, fascia joint trims, soffit starter and joint trims and roofline finials complete the job, plus Agate Grey polytop pins and nails. The one part Eurocell don't make in Agate is the 135° external corner for splayed bays.
