The Envirotile standard tile is the one most people mean when they say lightweight roof tile. It is a plastic interlocking tile, 365mm long by 325mm wide and 11mm thick, weighing about 645g – roughly 8.5kg per square metre laid, against 40–50kg for concrete. That is why it goes on garden rooms, extensions, porches and conservatory roofs where the timber was never sized for a heavy tile, and why it can be fitted down to a 12.5° pitch where a concrete interlocker cannot.
Allow 11.8 tiles per square metre at the standard 280mm gauge, or up to 13.4 at 250mm if you are tightening the gauge for a low pitch. Above 25° the tiles are nailed; between 12.5° and 25° they are screwed. Made from around 75% recycled plastic, virtually unbreakable, resists moss and mould, and carries a 25-year guarantee.
Ordering and delivery. Envirotile comes out of your nearest Eurocell branch. Orders over £150 are delivered free to site; under £150 delivery is £10. Order the whole roof in one go and add 5–10% for cuts and wastage – it is the top-up order for a dozen tiles that costs you time.
