Hollow soffit is the one that spans on its own. Internal ribs give it the rigidity to bridge an open eaves gap without any backing timber behind it, which is why it is the standard choice on a full replacement job where the old timber has come out.
 
300mm wide and 5m long. If the overhang is deeper than 300mm you are into flat soffit on a timber frame, or a wider board — measure the overhang before you order.
 
A note on lead time. Irish Oak is a special foil rather than a stock colour, so most branches bring it in rather than holding it on the shelf. Allow 3–10 working days. Order the whole elevation together and it all lands at once — it is piecemeal ordering that causes the wait.
